WHY USE DOLOMITE?
Poor plant growth and low crop yields are common problems
caused by acidic soils (soil pH < 6). These soils are also often
deficient in magnesium and calcium. Applying dolomite will correct
the soil pH and improve growth and yield by
- Increasing availability of important plant nutrients such
as
nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous.
- Providing essential elements calcium and magnesium.
- Conditioning clay rich soils to improve drainage.
- Lowering toxic levels of elements such as aluminum,
manganese
and iron which otherwise hinder plant growth.
In mari-culture (e.g. shrimp farms), dolomite is used to improve
productivity by
- Buffering acidic pond substrates
- Balancing sea water alkalinity
WHO USES DOLOMITE ?
In Belize, PUNTA GORDA DOLOMITE, is used by citrus and banana
plantations as well as shrimp farms, vegetable growers and gardeners.
APPLYING DOLOMITE
PUNTA GORDA DOLOMITE can be applied any time of the year.
It should be spread evenly on the soil around the plant, tree,
vegetables or the lawn. For tree crops such as citrus and cacao, and
larger plants like bananas or plantains, the dolomite should
be broadcast to cover the entire root zone from the trunk to
drip line. Dolomite is not toxic and cannot burn plants.
ORGANIC FARMING
Dolomite is an approved input for organically grown crops.
